What is trunking?

Trunk is defined as a telephone circuit or channel between two central offices or switching entities. So, what is a Radio Trunking System? The Radio Trunking System is a wireless system that automatically shares channels (frequencies) in a multiple repeater system.

How it works?

Channel and Fleet Management.

CHANNEL MANAGEMENT: In Channel Management, the channels (frequencies) used are switched using a Trunking Controller. The Trunking Controller permits a large number of mobile radio units to share these channels, by managing the channels and channel switching automatically. By using multiple channel systems, the possibility of channel blockage is minimized. Customers will no longer need to share a "common" channel or compete for airtime. Plus, you won't even need to monitor! With better channel management and security, you can spend more time taking care of business, than waiting for other users to finish theirs.

FLEET MANAGEMENT: Fleet Management organizes the trunking system. Customers are organized by the Trunking Controller into Fleets, Talkgroups, and individual user ID's. A Fleet, generally speaking, is the customers system as a whole, and it would include all individual users. Let's say that some of these users in your fleet are part of a couple of specialized departments, for example, Water Treatment, Maintenance, and Street Repair. Your fleet could have three talkgroups that would represent these departments. These talkgroups will be able to communicate within the Fleet independently from the others. This allows members of talkgroups to be more efficient because they hear only communications that pertain to their specific departments.

Trunking Advantages

  • Faster Access

LESS WAIT! No need to monitor the channel before you use it.

  • Channel Efficiency

MORE channels to use and LESS channel congestion.

  • More Privacy

Talkgroup members use the same channel during a conversation.

  • Flexible! Flexible! Flexible!

Talkgroups can be added anytime. Adding additional channels or modifying the existing radio systems is not necessary. With a regrouping feature, you can have talkgroups members communicate with each other for those special occasions.
